Automobiles in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers mentioned they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

City officials announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
