The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
